Frozen Reservoir in Central Park

Shot:
On a cold winter day roaming around Central Park with a my good friend and portrait photographer http://www.mattrileyphoto.com/ roaming around shooting whatever caught our eye. It was a very overcast day and a lot of my photos were coming out with a lot of grey overtones. The reservoir was almost totally frozen over that day as was my hands, I am not a huge fan of gloves. The rock wall through the water adding some distance perspective to this shot, and I love the way 423 Park is kinda covered up by the clouds.

Snowy Scenes Courtesy of Jonas

Shot:
This is the view into the courtyard from my balcony. I wanted to capturea nice snowy scene something out of a movie or even puzzle I have seen when I was young. The right time to take the photo was right after it stopped snowing to have a clear view and luckily enough before any cleanup took place.

Technique:
Here I setup my camera on a tripod with remote shutter for extra stability. I set my camera for f/5.6 and a 5 shot bracket to capture two stops up and two stops down. I used HDR eFex Pro to handle the base blend and then did a few modifications after to get my final look.

NYC in the Winter

Shot:
I have always wanted to shoot this location as it is one of the most shot locations of downtime Manhattan. I just wanted to all my own little twist. Most people shoot from down below to capture the piling in the water which is why I chose to shot from up higher so I could highlight the rocks with the snow.

Technique:
The edits in the include modifications of Shadows, Highlights, Whites and Blacks. I used a graduated adjustment layer to modify the exposure over certain areas of the frame. I adjusted the levels of the highlights and shadows. The final change was a split tone to get the color overlay and overall mood of the image.
